Our Reflections For Sandwich Making Competition

Do you know how to make a sandwich? Have you made your own sandwich before?

It was a truly enjoyable time for all Greenridge Primary School Primary 2 pupils when they had a chance to make their own sandwiches in school. The students had hands-on experience in making their own sandwiches from basic ingredients like bread, tuna, margarine, mayonnaise, lettuce and cucumber. Some of the best sandwiches were chosen for competition among the groups and the best sandwich was selected. The pupils were also responsible for the cleaning up which they did very well. Finally, the students ate the sandwiches which they unanimously agreed were extremely delicious. Read about their thoughts and feelings at their blog and look at their wonderful creations (photographs of the sandwiches) from the various photo albums.

'Hear' what the 2 Grace pupils feel about the sandwich making competition today.

Kenji, "Today, 29 August 2007, Wednesday, my teacher, Mrs Kristin Heng, lead us to the I-Cook Room. I made my own sandwich and after that, I eat it. It is fantastic! I enjoy this lesson."

Elvan, "This sandwich making session is fun and my sandwich is delicious. I would like to thank Sarah for the umbrella which she brought for us to decorate our sandwiches. She was nervous and I was nervous too. I wanted to win but it's a pity we did not."

Sarah, " Today, I enjoyed myself. But I have to say that I am disappointed because my group did not win. But it is trying your best and having fun. Anyway, I enjoyed myself."

Javier, "I was very happy and my sandwich was very big so I did not know where to start first. I was the last to finish my sandwich. I also nearly vomitted the food as there were too much."

Ernest, "I don't like my sandwich because it is ugly but I like the group's sandwich because it is beautiful!!!"

Jing Ying, "I enjoy making and eating my own sandwich. It is yummy! I will make more for my family next time. It is fun. I was very excited and happy."

Susan, "I was very excited to go to the I-Cook Room. It was my first time making sandwich. Next time, when I grow up, I want to be a chef."

Feng Ting, "I will make the sandwich by myself again."

Aliana, "I feel happy that I had done my own sandwich. It is fun!"

Faris, "I enjoy my own sandwich. It is delicious. It is not bad because I did not know how to do it. This is the second time I go to I-Cook Room."

My National Day Holidays by Susan Pang

HOW I SPENT MY NATIONAL DAY HOLIDAYS

I had a very special holiday last week from the 8th  to the 12th of August. It started with going to school in the morning at 7.45am, something which I don't usually do.Then we had a special mini sports event for those of us in Primary 1 and 2.That is how I celebrated the National Day with my friends and teachers.

On the 9th of August, Singapore's 42nd National Day, I went out with my family and my uncle to Takashimaya. We bought alot of food and my younger brother and I bought toys to play with. My  brother bought a toy sports car and a LEGO policeman.I bought the Aqua Beads. After that,we went to my grand parents'  house to watch the parade on TV and eat the food we bought.

On the 10th of August we visited the temple in Waterloo St and had vegetarian food for lunch. The next 2 days were normal weekends, nothing special there, except to finish off all my school work. We all had a good break from work and looked forward to returning to school on the 13th.

Bacterial Conjunctivitis

My apologies for my absence during the past two days, i.e. 20-21 August 2007. I had bacterial conjunctivitis in my left eye and had to stay away from school as it can be contagious.

Here's what conjunctivitis is about ...

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as pinkeye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear membrane that covers the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids. Conjunctivitis can be caused by infections (such as bacteria and viruses), allergies, or substances that irritate the eyes. One can get pinkeye by touching an infected person or something an infected person has touched, such as a used tissue. It also can be spread through coughing and sneezing. Doctors usually recommend keeping people diagnosed with contagious conjunctivitis out of school or work for a short time.

Double Champions!

What did you do during your Sports Day? Have you participated in any events?

The Primary 2 pupils had a field day on their Lower Primary Sports Day on 8 August 2007. There were three events for the Lower Primary Sports Day
last week (8 August 2007) and Primary 2 Grace pupils are proud to have done extremely well. We were the champions for two of the events, namely, Hop-A-Ball and Balancing Act.

Here's the instructions of the events ...

P2 Games

Instructions

Game A

“Twin Attack”

(Manipulative relay)

Skills required:

Chest passing

Jumping

Running

Pupils are to work in pairs. Player 1(holding ball) and 2, will jump into respective hoops. Player 1 will chest pass the ball to player 2. Player 2 will receive the ball and run to the next hoop (together with the ball). Player 2 will now pass the ball to Player 1, and continue till both players reach the end line. The player with the ball must run back to give the ball to the next pair.

In any case when the pupil loses the ball, he or she is to stop and pick the ball up where he/she has loses it and continue.

The relay will end with 4 players at the Start line and 6 at the End line.

Game B

Balancing Act”

(Stability relay)

Skills required:

Balancing

Two bean bags/quoits will be utilised. P1 pupils will hang the quoits around their wrists while P2 pupils will balance the bean bags on the backs of the palms. They are to stretch their hands out and run in between the markers. The pupil is required to pass the bean bags / quoits to the next person.

In the case when pupil dropped his or her bean bags/quoits, he/she is to stop immediately and place them back before running off.

The relay will finish when player 10 has performed the same routine and crossed the end line.

Game C

“Hop-a-ball”

(Locomotor relay)

Skills required:

Hopping

A ball is to be placed between the legs of the pupil. He or she is to hop to the next player and the ball is passed on (using hands) from player to player till player 5, who hops round the cone and passes to player 6. The ball is then passed on till player 10, where he will finish after reaching the ‘Start/End’ cone.

The relay will finish when the player 10 has performed the same routine and cross the end line.

We received our medals today and we wore them proudly on our necks. Mrs Heng took photographs for us so do come back to view them.

My NDP Experience By Shawn Lee

My NDP Experience by Shawn Lee

9th August 2007 was a sunny Thursday. We took an MRT to Marina Bay to view the NDP-live at about 4pm. We didn't have any tickets, so we have to find a good place to view the parade. We tried to squeeze through the crowd to the Merlion Park.

(But make a guess, did we get in? ) No we didn't because it was tooooo crowded. So we headed back towards the Padang.

At last, we discovered a big field with a huge screen where we could view the NDP. In the field, there were many people who brought their mat and snacks. Suddenly, we heard a loud noise, it was two helicopters holding an enormous Singapore flag and 5 Airforces, parachutes with red smoke up in the sky.

Everybody cheered; it was as loud as a lion's roar. As the sky grown darker and the programme came to an end, beautiful fireworks sparkled in the dark sky. It was so colourful and it was liked golden guns shooting in the sky. Everyone was screaming with excitement.

We enjoyed our evening very much!!!!!!!!!!! And I refused to go home. How I wish I can view the parade live every year.

My Trip To Redang Island By Brenda Yap

My Trip To Redang Island By Brenda Yap

During the National Day's long weekend, 8-11 August 2007, my family, grandparents, anuty and family, my 9-years old aunty Lam Lam and I went to Redang Island in Malaysia.  It took us 10 hours to travel from Singapore to the boat terminal to catch a 30-minutes boat ride to the Island.

Wow!  The sea-water is crystal blue and the beach is ivory white.

After we checked in, we went to the beach to play the soft white sand and swim in the clear sea-water.

On the second and third day, we collected many specials seashells and dried coral.  We also went snorkelling.

It was my first time and I was so excited to see lots of different types of colourful fish and coral.

I was quite fearful of the big fish because I was afraid that it would bite me.  However, I was not so frightened during my second snorkelling session.

We spent of lot of time playing with the waves and building sand castle.

We have fun jumping over the wave, even my little brother was having so much fun that he refused to go back to the resort.  We built 3 sandcastles and we managed to link them up togther.

Finally, we have to leave the beautiful island.  I wish I could come again next time and stay a longer period.
