Main Lereng (Bicycle Rim)

We played Main Lereng (Bicycle Rim) for PE today. Smile

This game was innovated by children in the late 50s in Singapore. With much energy to spare and no computer games to keep them occupied, children in that era were very innovative and find many ways to amuse themselves. This is one of many games innovated during that era.

Method of play

1 Basically, a bicycle rim (lereng) and a stick are used to play the game.

2 Two parallel lines are drawn 5metres apart, one marking the starting line, the other, the finishing.

3 The rim is held upright and when the signal is given to begin, it is thrust forward with the stick.

4 The player rolls it along with the stick, keeping the rim upright throughout until he reaches the finishing line.

5 The winner is the player who reaches the finishing line, first.

6 In team play, the game is played as a relay.

7 The player rolls it along with the stick, keeping the rim upright throughout until he reaches the finishing line.

8 The winner is the player who reaches the finishing line, first.

9 In team play, the game is played as a relay.

My Injury by Hermann Yap

On Saturday, 21st July 07, I was on my way to the supermarket. I was riding on the escalator and I put my leg at the side as the brushes would clean my feet. Suddenly, my toe was caught in the escalator. I was crying Crying like mad because my toe was in great pain. My mother was cross Angry with me as I did not heed her advice. My toe was bleeding profusely. My mother brought me to the doctor. There, I waited for my turn. When it was my turn, the doctor helped me by cleansing my wound with some sort of medicine spray. I cried as the solution bited my wound. After that, she applied a cream for the wound then she bandaged my toe. After getting the medicine, I went home immediately to rest. From then on, I never not listen to my parents about putting my feet near the side of the escalator again.
Written by Hermann Yap Embarrassed
Note: My teacher, Mrs Heng, wanted me to write about it and put it up so that it would serve as a lesson to others and they will not do the same thing.

Racial Harmony Day Classroom Activities

Racial Harmony Day

Singapore is a nation built by people from many races and cultures. Living in harmony is therefore important and relevant to all Singaporeans, as it will ensure the continued peace and prosperity that we have enjoyed for many years.

Schools commemorate Racial Harmony Day on 21st July. On this day in 1964, Singapore saw racial riots. Racial Harmony Day serves to remind our pupils that social division costs us dearly and that race and religion will always be potential fault-lines in Singapore society. It represents a day for schools to reflect on, and celebrate our success as a harmonious nation and society built on a rich diversity of culture and heritage.

One of the many activities which the children did to commemorate RHD was they learnt about the different ethnic food and they even tried the wrapping of nasi lemak. View the video on an introduction to nasi lemak here as well as a competition between two pupils on who can wrap a nasi lemak in the shortest time.

Activity Objective: Pupils will be able to learn method of wrapping Nasi Lemak.
Description: Pupils were given brown wrapping paper and newpaper (which they crumpled to make it into a ball and pretend to be the rice for nasi lemak) tried in their groups to fold a nasi lemak packet.

My June Holiday

I have lots of fun during June school holidays.

On the morning of 26 May 2007, my parents brought my sister and I to the Jurong Bird Park, we saw different types of birds. We took many pictures of the birds we saw.

At night, my whole family and I went to Aunty Daisy's house for BBQ. My classmate, Shawn, and his mum came too!

On 27 May, my cousins, my sister and I were celebrated my grandma's 63rd birthday at her home in Yishun. My grandpa cooked a lot of delicious food for us to eat. My mum made a strawberry marshmallow cake for my grandma.  After the birthday celebration, I went to Suntec City to see fish exhibition and I learnt to make a simple fountain by myself. I like the fountain so much that I asked my mum to buy the materials for the fountain so that I can make one for my home.

My parents also brought my sister and I to Jurong Point to watch the Teen Titans show. We also took a photograph with the Teen Titans. The Teens Titans are my favourite cartoons characters.

During one of the days during the holidays, my family went to Junction 8 just to watch Justice League show, the show was very nice. My sister and I enjoyed ourselves very much.

There was a show on Surf's Up at Bukit Panjang Plaza, so my parents brought my sister and I there as well. While waiting for the show, we played at the children maze which has lots of balls inside. But the Surf's Up show was very disappointing because there was nothing much to see. We also went to Courts at Tampines and it so happened that on that day, there were some fun games and a show. My sister and I managed to take pictures with Spongebob Squarepants and Sandy.

I really enjoy my holidays so much but now it's time to study hard!
