    My Ambition

    Do you have an ambition?

Read about what some Primary 2 Grace pupils have to say about their ambitions.

Everyone has an ambition. My ambition is to be a policeman.  I want to be a policeman because I like to catch bad people.  I can help and protect people.  I like to wear the uniform because it makes me look smart. I want to be a good policeman.

My ambition is to be a pilot. A pilot drives an aeroplane. I want to be a pilot because I can see other countries. I can fly to other countries like Indonesia and Australia. I can learn more about other people's culture. I can also learn to speak different languages. In other countries, I can buy presents for my family and friends. I can share my experience with them.

My ambition is to be a nurse. I want to be a nurse because I like to help my elder sister when she is sick. I can also help the doctors if they are busy.  I had this ambition when I was in kindergarden. I help my friends if they are sick in kindergarden. My father is happy with my ambition but my mother is not.  She thinks that the working hours of a nurse can be very long.  I wish my ambition can come true. I hope I can work with a doctor.

My ambition is to be a pastor. I want to be a pastor becuase I like to help people with problems. I had this ambition when I was in nursery two. My father and mother are happy with my ambition. They say that I have chosen a good ambition. If I really work and study hard, then obeying God's word will make me a good pastor. I think my parents will be proud of me.

My ambition is to be an artist. I want to be an artist becuase I love to paint, draw and colour. I can also draw and paint cars, trucks, lorries and vans. I had this ambition when I was in primary one. My parents are happy with my ambition. My workshop has paints, easel, brushes, drawing blocks, rags and many more art materials. I wish I can fulfil my ambition to become a famous artist and I hope many people would like my drawings.

My ambition is to be a firefighter. I want to be a firefighter becuase I want to save people from the fire. I think I would look good in my uniform. I had this ambition when I was in primary one. My father and mother are not happy because we may not have dinner together sometimes. In order to make my ambition come true, I must be brave and learn more things. I think my parents will be proud of me.

    Introductory Letter

    4 January 2007

Dear Parents/Guardians of Pupils in Primary 2 Grace,

Greetings and a very Happy New Year to you!  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child to Primary 2 Grace and hope that he/she has a wonderful learning journey ahead!  I hope that this letter serves to create a better understanding between us and explain some procedures that I will use throughout the school year.

First, allow me to introduce myself.  I have been teaching for the past seven years.  This year, I will be teaching English, Mathematics, Music, Health Education and Art & Craft to Primary 2 Grace.  I am expecting my second child and my expected delivery date is 7 February 2007.  I will be away on maternity leave from February to April and the school has made arrangement for an experienced relief teacher to take the class during my absence. As a teacher, I expect myself to perform to the best of my ability to help my pupils in areas such as academic studies and conduct.  I am looking forward to working with your child this year and helping him/her achieve his/her full potential.  I also have the following basic expectations.

    Expectations of pupils

    1. Pupils should do their homework daily.  They should also complete their school homework first before they do their tuition homework.  I would appreciate greatly if you can monitor your child daily and help to ensure that homework has been done.  Pupils must write their daily homework in their Pupil’s Handbook.  Please remind your child to bring his/her Pupil’s Handbook everyday and he/she is required to place it on the desk in the classroom.

    1. In the case of any absence, please provide a medical certificate (MC) or write a letter to inform me.  I would submit the MC or letter to the General Office for verification and reporting purpose as queries would be made for absence without valid reason.

    1. Pets, handphones and toys such as cards and gameboy are not allowed.  I would confiscate all unauthorized items from the pupils.  The items will only be returned at the end of the year (2007).

    Parent-Teacher Communication

I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is important for maximum school success. Throughout the year, I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.

    1. If you need to clarify anything with me regarding your child, please feel free to write to me on the Pupil’s Handbook.  Your child can then show me the parent’s notes in the Pupil’s Handbook the next day.  Please do not make a visitation to the school without appointment, as I would need to maximize the teaching time I have with the pupils.  If there is a need, I will call you.  As such, I seek your kind understanding to update me of any changes in the telephone numbers.

    1. The school sends much information through regular notifications, letters and consent forms to the parents.  Please respond (whenever necessary) quickly so that I can minimize the time spent to collect forms, money, etc.

    Timetable

    1. A copy of the timetable has been given to your child as well as attached to this letter.  Please always make sure that your child packs his/her school bag according to the time-table given. Your conscious effort is necessary as this will facilitate his/her learning

    Assignments

    1. All homework has to be completed and submitted on time.  Your child is required to submit the piece of work on the next day unless permission has been given by the teacher to submit on a different day.

    1. If your child faces some problems in doing the homework, he/she should look for me and let me know so that I can help him/her.  Please be informed that teaching will definitely be done before a related piece of work is given to your child to complete.

    1. I will send the books or worksheets back for endorsement at least once a month so that you can keep track of your child’s progress.  Please sign them on the day itself so that it can expedite checking on the next day.

    Collection of books

    1. I will be collecting some items from your child from Wednesday (3rd January) to Friday (6th January).  This will help to lighten the weight of your child’s bag in future and facilitate my teaching.

    1. The list of items are:

    English Language

    1)     In-Step Activity Book 3A

    2)     2 Pink files (for filing Term 1 worksheets and Written Expression)

    3)     2 broad line exercise books (for Spelling and Mental Grammar)

    4)     Clear file (for filing Library worksheets)

    Mathematics

    1)     In-Step Workbook 3A Part 1

    2)     Blue file (for filing worksheets)

    3)     1 medium-square exercise book (for Mental Sums)

    1. Kindly write your child’s name, class, subject (where applicable) and teacher’s name on cover of the books before your child brings them to class.

    1. In any situation whereby your child does not have the above-mentioned items, kindly send me a note and I will collect from him/her on another day.

    Class Webpage

    1. I have plans to create a class webpage and would like to appeal to parents who have knowledge of web designing to come forward and help in the creation.  You may express your interest to help in the acknowledgement slip so that I can contact you.

    Classroom Decoration

    1. Children learn best in a conducive environment and I strongly believe in showcasing the pupils’ work in the class.  However, it would take up too much of the curriculum time to do such decoration.  Again, I would like to appeal to parents who have a flair or interest in decoration to come forward and help in the classroom decoration.  You may express your interest to help in the acknowledgement slip so that I can contact you.

Please sign on the acknowledgement slip and return it through your child by Tuesday, 9 January 2007.  Your comments and contact numbers are greatly appreciated so that I can contact you if there is a need.

In closing, I would just like to say that I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year!

Thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs Kristin Heng
